Podhorácké muzeum - The Podhorácko Museum

A visitor entering through a Baroque gateway the precincts of Porta coeli, the Cistercian Abbey at Předklášteří and a National Cultural Monument, will find behind the high Convent wall a large complex of buildings unfold itself, with an early Gothic core and many Gothic, Renaissance and especially Baroque extensions. Through an alley of massive linden trees one will come to the main yard with a unique, richly ornamented Gothic portal on the front of the Convent Church, and the opposite building of the Podhorácké museum seated here since 1955. The Museum box office offers a wide selection of tours: in hourly intervals the spaces of the Gothic centre of the Convent are opened: the Church, cloisters with a paradise garden and the capitular hall. A separate admission is provided to the four permanent exhibitions and numerous seasonal exhibitions at the Museum. These will capture the interest of a perceptive visitor by exhibits on display as much as by the atmosphere of a classic museum environment in the Baroque building of the former provostry. The oldest exhibition presenting the subject of PALEONTOLOGY AND MINERALOGICAL SYSTEM, installed in period display cases in the Museum corridor, was extended in 1998 by a regional section on MINERALS IN TIŠNOV AREA. Contrasting in theme are two historical exhibitions: MIDDLE-CLASS RESIDENCE INTERIOR IN THE LATE NINETEENTH AND EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURIES installed in 1999 and HISTORY AND PRESENT OF PORTA COELI CONVENT in 2004. Yet another display entitled LAPIDARIUM (collection of stone fragments) awaits the visitor in the Convent cloisters, restored and completed in 2009. Before leaving, one can stop by the box office and get some souvenirs to remind them of their visit to the Convent and Museum or exhibitions seen at any later time.

Tours of the convent interior only accompanied by a guide for at least three visitors. The route includes the gothic spaces of the abbey (cloister, capitular hall, paradise garden), the church is temporarily inaccessible due to a reconstruction. A tour of his interior can be seen in a video recording in a permanent museum exhibition.
